The Altra Lone Peak 7 is the newest iteration of a design that totally revolutionized what trail running shoes can be. The first Lone Peak models introduced what’s known as an open toe box (extra room in the toe section which allows the foot to move if necessary). The open toe box. combined with Altra’s signature Zero Drop layout. created a natural foot strike that is supported by excellent cushion. protection. and grip. Subsequent Lone Peak models benefitted from materials advancements and continued to improve. and the Lone Peak 7 is undoubtedly the best yet. If you’re looking for a trail running shoe for long days on uneven terrain. then the Lone Peak 7 is a great option.
WHY PACERS CARRIES THESE SHOES:
The Altra Lone Peak 7 is a staple trail running shoe for good reason. The original version of the Lone Peak challenged the traditional ‘locked-in’ design concept. which asserted that locked-in feet made a runner more nimble. Instead. Altra decided to design a shoe that allows the forefoot to move—without sacrificing your ability to run on any trails. Additionally. the balanced cushioning promotes foot health for runners with good form. In challenging the status quo. the Lone Peak offers a unique type of shoe for runners who prefer a different running experience. and it’s a must-have in any trail running shoe store.
WHAT’S NEW:
The MaxTrak outsole compound in the Lone Peak 7’s is stickier and more durable than recent Lone Peak models. The MaxTrak’s lugs are significantly improved and will really help you dig in to unstable snow or mud. The midsole is still made of Altra EGO foam and TPU rock guard. though it is slightly slimmer. This change was made partly because the upper is also slimmer due to seamless construction. This helps improves the fit and reduces stitch irritation; it’s simple improvement to an already-great design—something that will delight Lone Peak fans.
